"The Glen"
[Instrumental Intro: A wash of acoustic guitar and strings, like flowing water tumbling over stone, gradually swelling into the verse]
[Verse 1]
In Watkins Glen where the cool waters weave
Through emerald chasms where echoes breathe
Mists rise like incense smoke from hidden shrines
Carved by the elements and as old as time
[Chorus]
Guard these wild places, let their voices stay
As pure as the dawn at the first light of day
From Seneca's mirror to Cayuga's storied shore
May their wildness endure here forevermore
[Verse 2]
The air is laced with the aromas of pine and petrichor
With a hint of meadow herbs and summer's gentle lore
While every breath I take fills my being with joyfulness
And the stillness of the forest bestows a certain peacefulness
[Verse 3]
Footfalls are softened by the moss upon the stone
And arches of rainbows in the spray are sewn
Deep gorges whisper the tune of an ancient song
Of peoples who walked these paths long gone
[Bridge]
Oh, hear the plea of the earth far below
Its but a fragile hymn in a ceaseless flow
Hold fast the gift of these here sacred lands
They may slip like water through careless hands
[Verse 4]
Through vineyards ripe and fields of gold
The Finger Lakes with their vast arms unfold
Carved out by glaciers over two miles high
The past and present walking side by side
[Chorus]
Guard these wild places, let their voices stay
As pure as the dawn at the first light of day
From Seneca's mirror to Cayuga's storied shore
May their wildness endure here forevermore
[Instrumental Outro: Waterfall-like cascade of strings and guitar, fading into a soft echo of rushing water]
