Lyricist, Poet, and Author

Kevin J. AmonMy name is Kevin Amon, and I currently live in Virginia. My journey has been far from easy, but it has shaped me into the writer and person I am today.

Growing up, I struggled deeply with severe depression. As a teenager, life often felt overwhelming, and by the age of sixteen, I came dangerously close to ending it all. I battled loneliness, low self-esteem, and the constant feeling that I didn't fit in anywhere. It was during this dark period that an unexpected mentor changed the course of my life.

While working at a restaurant, my manager, Scott, noticed my struggles and took me under his wing. In 1995, he introduced me to poetry. That simple act of encouragement gave me an outlet to pour my sadness onto paper instead of bottling it up or turning to self-harm. Scott, who also wrote poetry, mentored me for two years and helped me discover my voice. Writing quickly became my lifeline, a way to transform pain into expression and despair into hope.

In 1997, I entered college and earned an associate degree in Horticulture. During that time, I dreamed of seeing my poetry in books. Another mentor, my college teacher Tony, was also an author, publishing science fiction works. He guided me through the process of self-publishing, making that dream a reality.

Today, I am proud to have six books available on Amazon, with more on the way. My poetry covers the full spectrum of human experience, from depression, suicide, loneliness, and isolation to love, romance, healing, and personal growth. Within my books, I hope readers find something that resonates with their own lives, whether in their struggles or their triumphs.

Although the shadow of depression once defined me, today I live with gratitude and joy. Writing has become my medicine, my way of making sense of life. Without Scott's mentorship, I don't know where I would be today. My mission now is to pay that gift forward: to help young people who battle depression and thoughts of suicide, showing them that poetry can be a powerful tool for survival and self-discovery.

Beyond writing, my life is also full of love and resilience. I am married to my wife, Amy, and together we share our home with two beloved cocker spaniels, Daisy and Hogan, both now 13 years old. Their journeys have mirrored my own in strength and perseverance:Hogan became paraplegic after a back injury but thrives with the help of a mobility cart, while Daisy recovered from major knee surgeries. They remind me daily that even with hardships, life can still be joyful.

Another passion of mine is running. Since 2005, I have participated in over 28 charity races, each one supporting meaningful causes. Running has given me both physical strength and mental clarity, serving as another outlet for happiness and healing. For me, running and writing are intertwined:they both release endorphins, restore balance, and keep me grounded in gratitude.

I see myself as a survivor, writer, and mentor. My past no longer defines me:it fuels my mission to inspire others. Through poetry and storytelling, I want to help those who feel lost know that there is always another way forward, and that with love, hope, and expression, life can once again become worth living.
